The queues in some places were due to delays caused by technical glitches and breakdown in the electronic voting machines (EVMs) as well as instances of bogus voting.<br \/>Polling began one hour late at the Elamkulam Village office in Ernakulam constituency as the Voter Variable Paper Audit Trail machine developed some snags. Later, the machine was reset by technicians. Polling continued at several places even after 6 p.m. The voting percentage is expected to go up as the Election Commission has not yet released the final figures. In 2019, the Alappuzha Parliament constituency registered 80.25% voter turnout. Based on the official statistics available at 5.50 p.m., a total of 17,66,362 people, including 8,25,101 men, 9,41,252 women and nine transgender voters have cast their votes in the district and the polling percentage is 66.54.<br \/><em>-Aabha Raveendran<\/em><br \/>Former MLA A. Pradeep Kumar, also the election agent of LDF candidate for Kozhikode Lok Sabha segement Elamaram Kareem, has complained to the Election Commission against the Returning officer\u2019s \u2018unlawful\u2019 act of denying \u2018companion votes\u2019 to blind and infirm voters across the district.\u00a0<br \/>In the complaint filed online, Mr. Pradeep Kumar has pointed out that the Returning officer has issued a direction to the Presiding officers to disallow \u2018companion votes\u2019 as prescribed under rule 49 N of election rules, causing chaos among voters.\u00a0<br \/>\u201cMany blind and infirm voters who were brought to the polling stations along with their companions to cast their votes were sent back unnecessarily. Some of them are waiting there (at the polling stations),expecting that the returning officer will reconsider their rights\u201d, the complaint says. In case of open votes, the presiding officers shall allow the companion of an able voter to accompany him\/ her only up to the voting compartment.\u00a0<br \/>However, in cases where the voter is unable to cast the vote due to some issue, including blindness, the companion shall cast the vote on their behalf.\u00a0<br \/><em>-Aabha Raveendran<\/em><br \/>Various church factions in Kerala on Friday urged the people to go and vote for those supporting secularism and democracy in the general elections in the southern State.<br \/>Archbishop Raphael Thattil of the influential Syro-Malabar Church, after casting his vote, said the church wants everyone to live peacefully in the country.<br \/>Malankara Orthodox Syrian church head Baselios Marthoma Mathews III said the elections will help elect a new government for the betterment of the country.\u00a0<br \/>Thrissur Archbishop and CBCI president Archbishop Andrews Thazhath said he was devastated after witnessing the situation in Manipur and said people will vote for those who support secularism and democracy.\u00a0<br \/><em>PTI<\/em><br \/>With just three more hours left for the polling to conclude, 52.25% of the voters in Kerala have so far cast their votes.<br \/>Kerala, which has 2.77 crore voters this time, had crossed the halfway mark around 3 p.m.<br \/>As per the latest official update, all constituencies except Ponnani have reported above 50% polling.<br \/>The initial brisk pace in the State had slackened somewhat towards noon on account of the sweltering summer heat. Satheesan, BJP State president K. Surendran, saffron party candidates Suresh Gopi and Anil Antony as well as Congress\u2019 K.C. Venugopal and Shafi Parambil were seen casting their votes early in the morning.\u00a0<br \/>Besides them, Congress stalwart A.K. Antony, KPCC president K. Sudhakaran, LDF convener E.P. Jayarajan and CPI(M)\u2018s Thomas Isaac also came in the morning to exercise their democratic right.\u00a0<br \/><em>PTI<\/em><br \/>The polling percentage in Kerala is inching closer to the halfway mark.\u00a0<br \/>At 2.15 p.m., the State-level polling percentage stands at 46.02%.\u00a0<br \/><strong>The constituency-wise percentage is as follows:<\/strong><br \/>Thiruvananthapuram (44.66), Attingal (47.23), Kollam (44.72), Pathanamthitta (44.96), Mavelikkara (45.20), Alappuzha (48.34), Kottayam (45.42), Idukki (45.17), Ernakulam (45.18), Chalakudy (47.93), Thrissur (46.88), Palakkad (47.88), Alathur (46.43), Ponnani (41.53), Malappuram (44.29), Kozhikode (45.92), Wayanad (47.28), Vadakara (45.73), Kannur (48.35), and Kasaragod (47.39).<br \/><em>-Tiki Rajwi<\/em><br \/>All Indian Congress Committee (organisation) general secretary K.C. Venugopal has said that Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] leader E.P. Jayarajan met and held discussions with Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Kerala in-charge Prakash Javadekar with the knowledge of Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.<br \/>In a statement issued on April 26, Mr. Venugopal, who is the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidate in the Alappuzha constituency in Kerala, said Mr. Jayarajan \u201cmade a deal with the BJP for the Chief Minister.\u201d<br \/>The Congress leader said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehindu.com\/news\/national\/kerala\/ldf-convener-ep-jayarajan-admits-meeting-bjps-prakash-javadekar\/article68108778.ece\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">Mr. Jayarajan\u2019s admission of meeting Mr. Javadekar<\/a> and the Chief Minister\u2019s response revealed a \u201cclear-cut deal\u201d between the CPI (M) and the BJP in Kerala.<br \/>WhatsApp Image 2024-04-26 at 14.03.56.jpeg<br \/>WhatsApp Image 2024-04-26 at 13.52.36.jpeg<br \/>Indicating a voter turnout similar to the Lok Sabha election held in 2019, the Chalakudy Lok Sabha constituency recorded a polling percentage of around 40% by 1 p.m. on Friday.\u00a0<br \/>About 40.6% of male voters and 38.6% of female voters had exercised their franchise, as per the estimates by the State Election Commission. Around 10% of the transpersons had cast their votes. In 2019, about 43.72% of the electorate had exercised their franchise by 1 p.m.\u00a0<br \/>The Assembly segment-wise polling percentage at 1 p.m. this time is as follows: Kaipamangalam \u2013 37.66%; Chalakudy \u2013 38.85%; Kodungallur \u2013 37.98%; Perumbavur \u2013 40.96%; Angamaly \u2013 40.51%; Aluva \u2013 40.95%; and Kunnathuad \u2013 45.77%.\u00a0<br \/>The polling began on a brisk note at 7 a.m. and maintained a steady growth till 11 a.m. when the voter turnout reached 27.22%. It went up to 32.23% by 12 noon.\u00a0<br \/>The voter turnout in Chalakudy in the Lok Sabha election held in 2019 was 80.4%, In 2014, the total polling was 76.8%.\u00a0<br \/><em>G. Krishnakumar<\/em><br \/>At 1 p.m., 38.67% of voters had cast their votes of which 40.91% were men and 36.57% were women. Besides, 13.33% transpersons have also voted.<br \/>In the Ernakulam Parliament constituency, voter turnout in North Paravur touched 40.56% while Vypeen witnessed a more than 8% jump to 39.65% in the last hour, Kalamassery logged 39.54%, Thrikkakara 38.78%, Thripunithura 38.09%, Ernakulam 37.28%% and Kochi 36.70%.\u00a0<br \/>The district has a total electorate of 26,34,783 with 12,82,060 men, 13,52,692 women and 13 transpersons. First-time voters stood at 38,637. There are a total of 2,294 polling booths managed by 11,028 polling officials.<br \/>The 14 Assembly constituencies in Ernakulam district are split between Ernakulam, Chalakkudy, Idukki and Kottayam constituencies. While Perumbavur, Angamaly, Aluva and Kunnathunadu form part of the Chalakkudy constituency, Muvattupuzha and Kothamangalam are part of the Idukki Parliament constituency and Piravom of Kottayam Parliament constituency. Kalamassery, North Paravur, Vypeen, Kochi, Thrippunithura, Ernakulam and Thrikkakara constitute the Ernakulam Parliament constituency.\u00a0<br \/><em>M.P. Praveen<\/em><br \/>The month-long electioneering seems to have failed to create enthusiasm in a section of the voters of Katari Bagh in Kochi<br \/>Of the 1,155 voters of booth number 140 set up at the Kendriya Vidyalaya, only 60 voters exercised their franchise till 1 p.m.<br \/>The voters are mostly officials of the Indian Navy. This is one of the booths in the city with lower voter turnout, said the presiding officer of the booth.<br \/>The first three hours of polling witnessed 22 persons turning up, which accounted for 1.9% of the total voters.<br \/>By 12 noon, the polling slowly picked up and 30 more voters exercised their franchise to take the total count to 52 persons and 4.5% of the total votes.<br \/>It was slightly better at booth number 138 where 18.5% of votes were polled by 1 p.m.<br \/>However, 32% of votes were polled at booth number 139 by 1 p.m. There are around 800 Tamil Nadu natives in the booth where 1163 persons were enrolled as voters. These voters may turn up in large numbers during the evening hours, an official said.\u00a0<br \/><em>K.S. Booth number 103 at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Manjeri, in Malappuram Lok Sabha constituency, and Booth number 24 at Moideen Sahib Memorial Higher Secondary School, Kallingalparamba, Tirur, in Ponnani Lok Sabha constituency, were manned by differently abled personnel.<br \/>Malappuram district administration provided facilities including food, stay and vehicle for the differently abled officials who manage voting at those two booths.<br \/>\u200b<\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" lang=\"en\"><p><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/threadless\/status\/1783766260259397657\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" type=\"ff83d182d26dda0ed68ce42a-text\/javascript\"><\/script><\/div>\n<p>\u200b<br \/>A stellar performance like in the 2019 General Elections could reignite the Congress\u2019s mojo post its 2021 Assembly polls debacle in Kerala. The CPI(M) is probably aiming at increasing the number of MPs to maintain its national party status. At present, the party has nothing to fear as the Left coalition is intact until the 2026 Assembly polls in Kerala. Meanwhile, the BJP is laying the groundwork for the next Assembly polls.\u00a0<br \/>Under normal circumstances, the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) should roughly share the 20 seats in Kerala. However, the present situation appears to be exceptional, similar to that in 2019, even though nearly all pre-poll surveys indicate a third term for the BJP-led government at the Centre.<br \/>Supervising the polling process turned out to be a very pleasant experience for Jeen Varghese, the presiding officer of the all-women Pink Booth in Kochi city. Ms. Varghese, the Head of the Electronics Department of BPC College, Piravom, leads the team, which includes T. R. Remi, the First Polling Officer and M. C. Millet and V. Sreevidya.<br \/>The entrance to the 91st booth has been decked up using pink balloons and robes to give the room a festive and a pleasant look.<br \/>\u201cIts my first assignment at a pink booth. Praveen<\/em><br \/>The polling percentage of Kollam stood at 30.45% by 12 noon and the total votes polled in the constituency is 4,03,997. It includes 202933 male votes, 201064 female votes and zero transperson votes.<br \/>The voter turnout at various constituencies is as follows: Chavara (29.60), Punalur(31.26), Chadayamangalam(31.00), Kundara ( 30.62), Kollam (30.32), Eravipuram (31.09) and Chathannoor (29.07).<br \/><em>&#8211; Navamy Sudhish<\/em><br \/>An incident of bogus voting has been reported from Chavara in Kollam following which LDF workers have filed a complaint against a Congress booth agent. Asha, a voter who came to cast her vote at booth number 118 at Puthanthura, found that some other person had already voted against her name. She was later allowed to cast a tender vote and LDF workers said they have contacted the RDO and complaints will be filed before all higher authorities.<br \/><em>&#8211; Navamy Sudhish<\/em><br \/>The polling percentage in Kerala has touched 33.40% at 12.20 p.m., as per the latest official update. The polling percentage has crossed the 35%-mark in Attingal and Palakkad constituencies. Ponnani is at the bottom of the list with 29.66%.<br \/>The constituency-wise percentage is as follows: Thiruvananthapuram (32.55), Attingal (35.15), Kollam (33.07), Pathanamthitta (33.63), Mavelikkara (33.80), Alappuzha (35.13), Kottayam (33.50), Idukki (33.40), Ernakulam (32.92), Chalakudy (34.79), Thrissur (33.48), Palakkad (35.10), Alathur (33.27), Ponnani (29.66), Malappuram (31.58), Kozhikode (32.71), Wayanad (34.12), Vadakara (32.18), Kannur (34.51), and Kasaragod (33.82).<br \/><em>&#8211; Tiki Rajwi<\/em><br \/>Though polling was expected to drop towards noon due to the rising temperatures, brisk polling continues at the Government LP School at Pulimath in Attingal Lok sabha constituency. Sajit<\/em><br \/>District Collector Snehil Kumar Singh has brushed aside allegations of faults in the voting machine in two booths in the Kozhikode North Assembly segment. He said that there were allegations that the vote polled for one symbol was recorded on another in the booth number 17. However, the allegation proved to be false in the test voting conducted later. The voter who made the wrong allegations has been arrested by the Elathur police.\u00a0<br \/>There was also a similar allegation from booth 83 in the same constituency. However, the complainant refused to cast a test vote, the collector said.<br \/><em>&#8211; Aabha Raveendran<\/em><br \/>A booth agent who felt uneasiness during his duty died at Government General Hospital in Kozhikode on April 26.<br \/>The deceased was Maliyekkal Aneez Ahamed, a retired KSEB Engineer. The 66-year-old collapsed during duty at Government Vocational Higher Secondary School, Kuttichira.<br \/><em>&#8211; Mithosh Joseph<\/em><br \/>Polling began one hour late at the Elamkulam Village office in Ernakulam constituency as the Voter Variable Paper Audit Trail machine developed some snags.<br \/>Later, the machine was reset by technicians.
