Prime Minister Narendra Modi asserted that Congress\u2019 tally in the Lok Sabha polls<\/a> will be an \u201call-time low\u201d, as the grand old party would struggle to cross even the \u201chalf-century\u201d mark in the hustings. He also mocked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi\u2019s decision to contest from Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Rae Bareli seat<\/a>, \u201csensing defeat\u201d in Kerala\u2019s Wayanad, where he is a sitting MP.

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi filed his papers from Uttar Pradesh\u2019s Rae Bareli constituency, barely an hour before nominations closed for the Lok Sabha seat. Earlier in the morning, the Congress ended the suspense over Amethi and Rae Bareli, announcing his candidature from the seat held by his mother Sonia Gandhi for the last two decades.
Meanwhile, AAP Lok Sabha candidate from West Delhi, Mahabal Mishra, appreciated the work done by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal saying his \u201cguarantees are visible on the ground\u201d while Prime Minister Narendra Modi\u2019s guarantees are \u201cjumla\u201d (rhetoric). Asserting that the people are angry over the arrest of AAP\u2019s national convener, Mr. Mishra said there is a wave of sympathy for him.

In Maharashtra\u2019s Raigad district, the pilot of a helicopter was injured after it tilted during landing, a police official said. The chopper was scheduled to pick Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sushma Andhare for a public rally in connection with the ongoing Lok Sabha polls, he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi began a mega roadshow in Jharkhand\u2019s capital Ranchi on Friday evening.
Thousands of people lined up on both sides of the stretch to greet the PM.
The roadshow began amid tight security soon after Mr. Modi landed at the Birsa Munda airport in a special helicopter from Chaibasa after holding a public rally there.
After reaching Ranchi, the PM paid floral tributes to tribal icon Birsa Munda at his statue at Birsa Chowk.
In view of the roadshow, traffic restrictions were imposed along the stretch from the airport to Raj Bhavan, the route being undertaken by the PM.
The entire route from the airport to Raj Bhavan has been declared as no fly zone for drones from 5 a.m. on Friday to 11 p.m. on Saturday, district administration officials said. – PTI
Taking a dig at the Congress\u2019 pledge to tackle wealth and income inequality in its manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections, Mr. Modi remarked that the party had stated that Muslims hold the primary claim to the nation\u2019s resources, contrasting it with his government\u2019s focus on uplifting marginalised communities including the poor, dalits, tribals, and other vulnerable sections.\u00a0
Mr. Modi said the Congress had announced that it would conduct a survey to find out the property of individuals, gold owned by women, \u2018stridhan\u2019, silver, land and redistribute it to those indulging in \u2018vote jihad\u2019.\u00a0
\u201cCan you tolerate the government snatching your hard-earned money and property?\u201d he asked.\u00a0
Mr. Modi accused the Congress of aiming to take away SC\/ST\/OBC reservation and allocating them to Muslims, alleging the party\u2019s intention to sow religious divisions in the country. – PTI
In his first election campaign in Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday accused the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and its ally, the Congress, of looting the natural resources of the State.
Addressing a rally in Jharkhand\u2019s Chaibasa for the BJP\u2019s Singhbhum candidate Geeta Koda and Khunti nominee Arjun Munda, Mr. Modi alleged that there was a race going on between the Congress and the JMM to loot the State and commit corruption.
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi attacked PM Narendra Modi and said he \u201cbought planes for himself but did not waive off the loan of farmers\u201d.\u00a0
Priyanka Gandhi held a road show in support of the Congress\u2019 candidate from Fatehpur Sikri Lok Sabha constituency, Ramnath Sikarwar. Sitting atop a vehicle along with Sikarwar and without taking any names, she said, \u201cHe has only taken your votes by inciting your emotions during the elections. He has not given you anything. He has given to his rich friends only,\u201d she said.
The Congress general secretary said, \u201cThe prime minister bought planes for himself but did not waive off the loans of the farmers. Has Modi ji wiped the tears of a single farmer or has he helped a single poor? He has only run his government for his rich friends and you only get a sack of five kilograms of ration.\u201d – PTI
Actor and TMC\u2019s Ghatal MP Deepak Adhikari\u2019s helicopter caught fire soon after taking off from Malda helipad forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing, police said.
Mr. Adhikari, popularly known as Dev, was unharmed and later travelled by road to reach his subsequent destination in Raninagar for another election rally.\u00a0
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee telephoned Mr. Dev and enquired about the situation.\u00a0
\u201cIt\u2019s natural that there will be a little trauma. This turbulence, smoke, and smell have a psychological effect on me. Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is trying to create an image of \u2018Hindu hriday samrat\u2019 (king of Hindu hearts) in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The Thiruvananthapuram MP also claimed there was a decline in the voting percentage in certain areas and it reflected the \u201cindifference being felt by the traditional BJP supporter\u201d.
He said Mr. Modi, in 2014, came up with a very persuasive agenda of anti-corruption, replication of his Gujarat development model, which collapsed by the first term itself.
\u201cIn 2019, they fought the general polls on Pulwama, Balakot (terror incidents and surgical strikes in response). That was his message. Now, after 2019 he can\u2019t say that because I have said he has been a failure in the Chinese border area,\u201d Mr. Tharoor claimed.

Questioning the delay in releasing the final figures for the percentage of votes cast in the first two phases of Lok Sabha election, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury in a letter to Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, asked the panel to explain the 6% surge from the initial figures that the ECI had put out.\u00a0
Mr. Yechury in his letter pointed out that ECI took 11-days to publish the final figures for the first phase and four days for the second phase. \u201cUnfortunately, the ECI has not come out with any explanation for the cause of this undue delay.\u201d he wrote.\u00a0
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi declared assets of over \u20b920 crore in his papers.\u00a0
Mr. Gandhi has declared movable assets to the tune of \u20b99,24,59,264, including shares worth \u20b93,81,33,572, a bank balance of \u20b926,25,157 and gold bonds of \u20b915,21,740.\u00a0
The former Congress president has declared immovable assets with a current market price of \u20b911,15,02,598. These include self-acquired immovable assets currently worth \u20b99,04,89,000 and \u20b92,10,13,598 worth of inherited assets.\u00a0
Mr. Gandhi has claimed that he has \u20b955,000 cash in hand and a liability of \u20b949,79,184.\u00a0

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Vinod Tawde said the Mahayuti alliance will win more than 40 seats in Maharashtra in the Lok Sabha elections.\u00a0
Former minister Eknath Khadse will return to the BJP, and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the party\u2019s state unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule had never opposed his rejoining, he said.\u00a0
Mr. Khadse quit the BJP in 2016 after almost four decades in the party. Last month, the veteran leader, who is with the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), said he would be rejoining the saffron party.\u00a0
Mr. Tawde, however, said that the party\u2019s Central leadership will make the final decision about Mr. Khadse\u2019s return to the fold. – PTI
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the BJP and RSS attack democracy continuously and want to \u201cdestroy\u201d the country\u2019s Constitution.
Mr. Gandhi, who cancelled his visit to Odisha\u2019s Rayagada district to address an election rally at the last moment for filing nomination papers for Raebareli Lok Sabha seat, has sent a video message in which he attacked the Sangh Parivar and the prime minister.
In the message, Mr. Gandhi said continuous attacks were made on democracy and the Constitution.
\u201cThe Congress party and INDIA bloc are trying to protect democracy and Constitution while Modi, BJP and RSS want to destroy it,\u201d Mr. Gandhi said.
Whatever benefits the tribals, Dalits and backward communities have received, it was only because of the Constitution, he said.
\u201cThese people are trying to finish the book (Constitution) which has given you all these rights,\u201d he said adding that without the Constitution, there would be nothing. – PTI
The CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front and the BJP in Kerala lashed out at Rahul Gandhi for filing his nomination from Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha polls.
They alleged that the Congress leader cheated the people of Wayanad in Kerala, where he contested the general election on April 26, and said that fighting polls from another seat \u201cdoes not align with political morality\u201d. – PTI
