Tamil Nadu Election 2024 Phase 1 Voting LIVE: All the 39 seats of Tamil Nadu have gone into polling in the first of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections on Friday. The result of the high-stakes battle between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) will be declared on June 4.
Key candidates to watch out for in Tamil Nadu is the state BJP president K Annamalai, contesting from Coimbatore against DMK leader Ganapathy P Rajkumar and AIADMK’s Singai Ramachandran. In the Chennai South Lok Sabha seat, BJP’s Tamilisai Soundararajan will be facing DMK’s Thamizhachi Thangapandian and AIADMK’s J Jayavardhan.

As voting for the phase-1 of the Lok Sabha elections is underway in Tamil Nadu. Let’s look at the key issues in the Perambalur constituency:

Tamil superstar Ajith Kumar became the first actor from the film industry this year to cast his vote as part of the Lok Sabha Election 2024. The first phase of voting began on Friday, April 19, and Tamil Nadu was one of the first states to cast their votes. In videos gone viral, Ajith was seen at the polling booth in Thiruvanmiyur to cast his vote.
It is reported that the actor reached the polling booth at 6:40 am and waited until the polling booth opened at 7 am.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been visiting state to state amid the campaigning for the Lok Sabha elections.
The Prime Minister visited Tamil Nadu for a record seven times since February 27.
PM Modi held a massive roadshow along with BJP state president K Annamalai and three BJP candidates – Tamizhisai Soundararajan, Vinoj P Selvam and Paul Kanagaraj – on April 9 in Chennai, where the crowd was heard chanting “We want Modi again”. Other leaders of high command who have been visiting the state are Rajnath Singh, Hardeep Singh Puri and Anurag Singh Thakur.
Modi’s whirlwind tours to Tamil Nadu, which go to polls from April 19 in all its 39 Lok Sabha seats, signal that the BJP is eyeing make inroad into certain constituencies, which have traditionally been dominated by the Dravidian parties.
Of the 39 constituencies, the BJP is contesting 23, PMK (Pattali Makkal Katchi) 10, former minister GK Vasan-led Tamil Maanila Congress’ three, TTV Dhinakaran’s AMMK two, and expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam is fighting from one seat.
The Kanniyakumari Lok Sabha constituency comprises six assembly segments — Kanniyakumari, Nagercoil, Colachal, Padmanabhapuram, Vilavancode, Killiyoor.
The current MP is Vijay Vasanth of the Indian National Congress who was elected in the 2021 by-poll. He was preceded by H Vasanthakumar of the Congress. Kanniyakumari will vote in the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 on April 19 and results will be out on June 4.

This mark (inked finger) is the most beautiful insignia of a citizen. I would urge all citizens, especially the first-time voters, to take part in this festival with full enthusiasm…”

On the allegation levelled by the DMK against BJP, saying that the latter party is distributinhg money in Coimbatore, saffron party’s Tamil Nadu president K Annamalai said, “…I am running this election as a matter of principle…Their Intelligence, Tamil Nadu Police, DMK, AIADMK – what they are doing in politics, everybody is seeing. They are spending more than Rs 1000 Crores in Coimbatore.”
“If they can bring one voter and make them stand in front of the media and say that some BJP guy tried to influence them, I will leave politics the same day…I am challenging the Dravidian party, you bring one voter and make them stand in front of the media,” he added.
AIADMK’s Madurai candidate Saravanan, along with his family, cast vote for the phase one of the Lok Sabha elections.

On the first phase polling day of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, BJP national president JP Nadda said, “Today is the first phase of voting for the Lok Sabha elections. My humble request to all of you is that you all should participate in this great festival… Your every vote is going to be against corruption, against ‘parivarvad’ and appeasement…”
“We know that your every vote will strengthen the villages, empower women, give wings to the aspirations of the youth and contribute to the farmers moving forward with dignity… I also want to say that your vote will fulfil the resolve of a safe India, a prosperous India and a developed India and for this, it is necessary for all of you to vote and ensure your participation in this election,” he added.
